Information Revolution

Introduction

In 2006 we ran an Information Revolution Campaign!!!

Why did we go to such lengths to get people to hear about this campaign?

Even though the internet is over 30 years old, it is still evolving. It is also clear that search is still evolving, however there is little indication that we as consumers have improved our search techniques. People are falling into the trap of always using the same search engine - we are effectively turning into a generation of "sleep searchers" who use the same search engine that came with our computer, the one that's attached to our emails, the one that our friends use or the first one we found!

Surely there's more to life than one form of search - with millions of links, ten at a time, in ranked order? We think so - and we're developing some of the most innovative tools in the industry; from Binoculars (roll over the icon of binoculars and see a screenshot of a website before you visit), to Smart Answers (at the top of the page, we often return shortcuts to deeper information), to Zoom Related Search (suggestions to expand or narrow your search) - all these tools make search easier and faster for you!

We also have a unique search algorithm (translation: the mathematical brain behind our technology!), which produces a relevant, diverse set of search results based on the social network of sites that make up the Web.

The purpose of the Information Revolution Campaign was to get people to consider more information sources, consider more search engines and of course, consider us! So we were forced to go underground - with berets and uniforms! - to get the word out about Ask.com. No one said it would be easy, but we certainly had a go.
